Location in the sides of Duero´s river, in the heart of Castilla. Ribera de Duero has about 11.300 vineyards hectares in different villages of Burgos, Valladolid, Soria and Segovia provinces.
The Ribera de Duero is high, with an average high bigger than 800 meters. It has a continental climatology, with very extreme temperatures in summer and winter, a lot of frozen and very often drought. The region is on the line of the vineyards planting. Basically the unique vineyards who survive are the vineyards situated in the riversides which protect them. And where the temperature’s changes goes from 32ºC during the day to 6ºC during the night.
All this factors stimulate production of vital substances which transform themselves in colour and aromas amazingly intense.
So the vineyards which survive in this conditions makes wines quiet dark, deeply aromatics and with a big structure with a big concentration of stile and longevity.
Our wines from Rivera de Duero are made in Bodegas Thesaurus, a winery ready for 350.000 bottles per year and located in the Gold mile in Olivares de Duero village.
The Origin Denomination of Rueda was recognized the 12th of January 1980 by Agricultural Minister, being the first Origin Denomination recognised in the community of Castilla y Leon and being several years working for the recognising of “Verdejo” variety the indigenous variety of this area.
Rueda D.O. has very good climatology and whether for the production of high quality wines, being an area specialist in white wines with a big international recognising.
Rueda area is located in Castilla y Leon autonomic community inside of 72 villages which 53 are located in the south of Valladolid region, 17 in the west of Segovia region and 2 in the north of Avila region.
The different grapes varieties planted in Rueda D.O. are shared in irregular shape by the different villages of this Origin Denomination.Wherefore the biggest locations of vineyards are in Rueda village, La Seca and Serrada.
The Origin Denomination Cigales started to work like proper D.O. in 1990´s in the other hand there are documentations from the 10´s centuries where there were vineyards owners in several villages in this region like in Cubillas de Santa Marta or Corcos del Valle.
The first citizens of the region were the “Vaceos” putting down by the Romans in the 2´s centuries a.c. later will arrived the invasions (Barbarians, Germans and Arabic’s).
The reconquist brought people from other regions whose mixed their blood with the groups of survivors, forming the citizens of today.
In this fields keep innumerable footprints of a wonderful past. There are several castles around this area like in Trigueros del Valle, Fuensaldaña or Mucientes, where lived Juana la Loca.
Next to the castles and when the peace was stronger, started to there were more vineyards especially from the monastery which has the need of the wine for the praying and also for the private consume.
The Cigales wine had a big fame in Spain and overseas. When the filoxera invade the French vineyards the wines the wines from Cigales arrived as far as Bordeaux to supply their own wines.
To know how important is this region just we have to know that in 1888 Cigales used to has more than 15 Kg/millions of grapes. The typical and most famous wine from Cigales D.O. is the Rosse.
Vino de la Tierra de Castilla y León (Wines from the fields of Castilla and Leon).
The Origin Mention VTCL. Started in the 2000´s promoted by a group of big winemakers of the region. Who asked to build this geographic point to Castilla y Leon authorities?
The reason to make this mention was the need to canalize a big volume of quality wine makes in Castilla y Leon but out side of the typical D.O.´s. This canalisation let the wineries get grapes from this big area giving some more guaranties than the typical D.O. like prices stabilization, grapes quality and wines quality.
In July of 2000´s this winemakers made the association of Wines from Castilla y Leon.
Every winery from this association has very rich and long wine traditions, which in several cases are century’s wineries. Big wine knowledge’s has been transferred from fathers to sons with the past of the time and without any brake to the modern installations and technologies.
